Durban, South Africa – Get ready for the filmmaking adventure of a lifetime! The 48 Hour International Film Project returns, offering all film enthusiasts a chance to be part of a historic competition. This year, we are aiming for a record-breaking 100 short films created in just one weekend. Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker or a seasoned professional, this is your moment to shine.
Luthando Mngomezulu, Director of SABC1’s Uzalo and former top contender in the 48 Hour Film Project, credits the competition for shaping his career. “Everything I am today—Royalty Soapie Award winner, SAFTA Award-winning director, and Simon Mabhunu Award-winning producer—I give thanks to the foundation laid by the 48 Hour International Film Project. Its workshops and networking opportunities molded me into the filmmaker I am today.”
This year’s event is even more exciting, with filmmakers from Lesotho, Zambia, Nigeria, and Ukraine joining the competition. Nerusha Maharaj-Sadapal, city producer of the 48 Hour International Film Project in KwaZulu-Natal, expressed her enthusiasm for the festival. Maharaj-Sadapal, known for her work on Mummy’s Club and the Sugar & Spice edition currently on Showmax, promises that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
