Experience the Magic of Cinema at the 12th Ugu International Film Festival

KwaZulu-Natal, 13 September 2024 – The countdown to the 12th edition of the Ugu International Film Festival (UGUIFF) has begun! Returning from October 17-19, 2024, this year’s festival promises to be bigger and bolder, spotlighting the thriving KZN film industry, which has seen remarkable growth in recent years.

Senzo Zindela, Festival Founder and CEO of Zindela Pictures, is eager to kick off this year’s internationally recognized film festival. Featuring an array of local and international film screenings, exhibitions, workshops, and masterclasses led by top industry professionals, the festival promises to leave film enthusiasts inspired and craving more. Established filmmakers and aspiring talent alike will find a wealth of opportunities and insights during this three-day cinematic celebration on the South Coast.

Since the first edition 12 years ago, Zindela has been dedicated to understanding the best practices in the global film industry, drawing on experiences and lessons from around the world. His studies in entrepreneurship and business management at Chicago State University further enhanced his knowledge, equipping him with the expertise to make UGUIFF a leading platform for KZN-inspired filmmaking.

Masterclasses and Workshops

UGUIFF 2024 is set to feature a lineup of impactful masterclasses and workshops on various aspects of filmmaking, including:

•   Art of Action and Performance: Featuring talented actor Pallance Dladla.
•   Music Scoring and Composition: Facilitated by Sthembiso Mtshali.
•   Film Business and Funding Opportunities: Hosted by celebrated TV and news anchor Masechaba Ndlovu.
•   Scriptwriting and Directing: Led by modern-day motion picture director Siya Sityana.
•   International Film Growth Opportunities: Anchored by philanthropist, producer, and director Portia Ncwane.
•   Acting for the Big Screen: Conducted by award-winning actor Luthuli Dlamini.
•   Art of Action Directing: Presented by Peter Pham.

This Year’s Lineup and Opening Film

The festival will kick off with its opening film, The Foggy Mountain, an action-packed Indy movie starring Vietnamese actor Peter Pham. The film tells the gripping story of a retired martial artist who embarks on a quest for revenge, plunging into a brutal criminal enterprise that has terrorized an entire region.

Other films to watch for during the three-day festival include Indida Yothando, My Father’s Shadow, Safe Bet, Colourful Crime, and many more.
