The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in the Creative Arts

Ever since the hype around AI-Generated content started, the boundaries of creativity were severely blurred.

There were recent reports about the first ever AI-Generated music video that was produced by OpenAI’s SORA. SORA is an AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes from text instructions. As these developments with the likes of ChatGPTDALL-EMidjourney and others are coming up, it bring me the question of how AI-Generated art is or will be affecting the creative arts.

Now while we can all agree that the development of Artificial Intelligence can improve the standard of living tremendously, what then happens to the human aspect in art and creativity?

Art has been popular dating back centuries solely for the reason that humans resonate with it. Now the question is what happens when systems like SORA can control and create entire story lines? Or Systems like DALL-E or Midjourney that have the potential to generate a painting that could rival [Michaelangelo]?

What happens when videographers, videos editors and our favorite actors and actresses are replaced by Artificial Intelligence.

Open AI’s SORA

The human aspect in art and technology is what makes it work. It is the driving force behind creation, to aid the human experience. When we remove these aspects from creation, we are left with a rift, a disconnect. So, is the development of Artificial Intelligence really helpful to our human experience, or is it the tool that will knock the final nail in the coffin of our creativity? Especially in an age where reaching for an AI model like Midjourney, DALL-E or SORA is easier and accessible to all.

The likes of Samsung with Galaxy AI, Google with their Google AI in the Pixel 8 smartphone range and Adobe with their Firefly AI model have image editing capabilities that allows one to alter an image, change facial expressions, backgrounds and even create new ones just from simple clicks and text prompts. This just shows you how much of an impact Artificial Intelligence has on creativity today.

Now that tools like SORA, Deep fakes, AI Image editing and manipulation are a reality? What will become of creators? Do we now have the ability to change and edit how we remember photos, memories and events that were captured on film?

Is anything real anymore?
